With her golden, glossy hue, flattering bangs and bombshell curls, there’s always a lot of chatter surrounding pop star Sabrina Carpenter’s hair. (Carpenter recently cemented her hair icon status when she was announced as Redken’s first-ever celebrity ambassador.) Now in the midst of an international tour, the Espresso singer’s wavy locks are the talk of each town she visits, most notably how to replicate them. Luckily, we know the hair tool responsible for the Old Hollywood-style curls she regularly rocks on stage and off—and where to get it on sale.
Hair stylist Scott King revealed he creates Carpenter’s voluminous, long-lasting curls with Wavytalk’s 5-in-1 Curling Wand Set. Even better, the usually $63 tool is just $50 right now on Amazon.
Wavy Talk’s Curling Wand set comes with protective gloves, two hair clips and five interchangeable barrels: a 1.5″ thermal brush, a three-barrel curling iron, a 0.5″ wand, 1″ curling iron and a 1.25″ curling wand. Simply put, you can create every type of style—loose waves, tight spirals, voluminous curls, mermaid crimps and more. And with ceramic and PTC Technology, plus a 30-second heat time, hair stays smooth and faces minimal risk of damage.
How to Re-Create Carpenter’s “Vintage-Inspired” Waves
Which barrels does King favor for Carpenter’s strands? “For show days, I use the one-inch curling iron attachment and set her hair in one-inch sections towards her face, all in one direction, to give the hair a more uniform, vintage-inspired look,” King told us. “For day-to-day looks, we usually use a bigger barrel like the 1.25” curling iron attachment and set the hair in bigger sections for a voluminous blowout look that is not quite as tight.” And, according to King, there’s a key to getting the curls just right: “Let the hair set for a little while so all of the hair cools in place.”
When it comes to the star’s hair prep, King also divulged his go-to styling products. “I always prep [Carpenter’s] wet hair with Redken’s ABC leave-in treatment for heat protection and hydration and to build bonds,” King explains. On show days, he goes an extra step and sprays Redken Thermal Spray 22 on Carpenter’s dry hair for “more heat protection, hold and frizz protection when setting the curls.” After her curls are set and taken down, King says he sprays Redken’s Brushable Hairspray 12 on a boar bristle brush and brushes out the curls while simultaneously smoothing flyaways.
